"A character quote of your choice."
The Basics
Full Name: Nathaniel Olwen Harrison
Nickname/Alias: Nate, Sarge, Officer Harrison, Snowy, call him whatever but he doesn't appreciate it.
Species: Snow Leopard
Gender: Male
Age: Forty-Six
Occupation: Police Officer
Appearance
Fur/Tail: He is for the most part grey tones. The base color is a medium light grey, with almost white muzzle and underbelly markings. The white also shows on his paws and underside of his tail. Nate is spotted, with some of the spots being filled in with a brown color rather than entirely black. His tail is long and thick furred with spots on the top side.
Clothing: Generally his ZPD uniform in public, unless he's with his family which he still wears button up shirts. He is very simplistic in his dressing, and only dresses up for special occasions.
Overview: Nathaniel's eyes are an icy blue and he generally looks straight faced, agitated, or pretty much always judging you. He is a tall cat, being among some of the bigger felines and then being large for his kind as well. The officer has a fairly thick build made mostly of muscle. He is not thin or overweight but not overly muscled either. His paws are large and broad, helping his stability. He has a very confident stance and set of mannerisms as he is extremely sure of himself, even to a point where he visually comes off as unapproachable. The snow cat has a few scars to speak of, a torn left ear from a nasty suspect in his early career included. Claw scratches mark the left side of his face and his arm from a 'scuffle' in his younger days.
Personality
Personality Description: Nate is on the surface a secluded, anti-social, and always grumpy police commander. Most would say he doesn't like anyone or anything. He is a tough officer, taking no excuses and expecting the highest of standards from the officers around him. This makes him hardly popular with the less eager to please of police personnel. He often claims that he has no care what those around him are going through, he doesn't want to hear the stories, and has earned the reputation of being extra hard on people for it. He keeps his public image this way for a reason as he really doesn't like to get close to people for numerous reasons. His number of friends are low and he's the type to often work alone and take his breaks alone, and he doesn't care either. He isn't the type to complain or feel sorry for himself. Instead he simply keeps going. His reputation holds him as lacking compassion and even being aggressive but that isn't quite all there is to this cat.
Officer Harrison does in fact care for people. And he can be friendly, as is often seen when he interacts with victims of crimes and children. He has a deep care for the safety of those around him and he feels these people need his protection. While he truly doesn't want to hear your life story, he will in fact save your life in a moment of necessity. Probably would grumpily listen if you just kept talking too. His stand-off demeanor comes from not wanting to get too close to people as it has not worked well for him in the past. Living his teenage years in seclusion did nothing to encourage social behavior from the snow cat, instead it encouraged a severe independence and self reliance. He didn't need anybody else then, and until he met Maya he really didn't feel like he needed anyone else close in his life. He cares about his coworkers and does what he can to make them follow the rules not to make their lives miserable but to keep them safe. From dangers of the job, from losing their jobs, from themselves. As far as Nate is concerned he really is playing guardian. Just not in the most socially acceptable ways. He's a tough training officer too, and has in fact trained many officers of all kinds in the field.
He isn't opposed to offering praise really. He has trained many and while being a tough teacher he follows with real genuine compliments when things go well. Not the little things on average; he believes that too much praise would do about as much harm as never acknowledging anything positive. One on one he is particularly softer and is much more likely to care in a calm moment and if you actually try. Likewise he is willing to assist those who actually ask. Respect and honor are important for him as is a strong work ethic so showing any of it is one of the better ways to actually get on his good side. He's not cruel or careless, and he is in fact very supportive for the determined and goal oriented. Basically respect him and don't expect too much from him socially and he will show you the same respect. The opposite is also true.
The grumpy Sarge as he's often considered is a fiercely determined officer with the main motivation of protecting Zootopia and it's inhabitants. He took the job for multiple reasons. Including growing up with a bully of a brother whole often beat down other animals and had little to no regard for any sort of rules or order. He couldn't change his brother despite how much he tried, and he hated that lack of control, so he settled for containing animals like his brother in jail. This motivation grew into a general care for the safety of Zootopia despite his distaste for big cities and crowded spaces. He didn't have to like the big city to protect it's inhabitants. He is very strongly cooperative with the chief in maintaining a non-corrupt police department and ensuring quality policing through his own smaller command, often recognized for watching every little mistake and being a micro-manager. He's tough, but generally if someone shows remorse or care that they made a mistake he is more willing to forgive and move on.
As far as other animal species are concerned, Nate is one of the lesser prejudiced types. He shows a disliking for almost everyone regardless of species, predator or prey, and he truly doesn't care. A prey animal can commit a crime just as easily as a predator, likewise a predator can follow the rules as easy as anyone. He reserves his judgement for behaviors and personal experiences. Growing up his best friend was a prey animal which taught him the more open minded way of looking at their social order. He does somewhat hold a preferential trust toward prey animals rather than his own due to previous betrayal. From the same betrayal he also is not a fan of being touched or too close to people when unnecessary. He is severely loyal to those he finds worthy and sometimes willing to overlook small mistakes from someone who has done much good. He doesn't care what species you are, impress him and you could possibly have a long term strong ally. And he has quite the influence in the department were he inclined to use it.
Those he does take a social interest in get to see past the closed off and distant cat cop that he is normally. He does actually talk and can hold a conversation beyond business. He's always a realist though, never a complete optimist, not is he ever truly social and visible happiness is rare. His family have gotten closest. Maya and his children have found the soft and cuddly cat beneath. While Nate doesn't let most people close enough to even touch him, he enjoys being close to his family. Anyone who knows him otherwise and sees him with his family would be extremely confused to see Nate with a cub climbing all over him, or Maya leaning on him. Even just the cub holding onto his tail would seem crazy to most of his fellow officers. But he takes it well from children and those he cares about. He has always had a protective nature to him and the young ones particularly bring that out in him. There is an obvious pride to the officer when he mentions his children and is around them. Even cubs that aren't his attract his kindness rather than the cold side. It is possible that there is a friend or two who are also close enough that he would not react poorly to physical touch or attempts at conversation. He never is super social, even with the people he is closest to. He's a quiet individual of few words, and while coming off as an aggressive and hateful brute of an animal, he has a very deep and thoughtful side too. He didn't get where he is by sheer brute force.

History
History: Nathaniel was born the second son of a middle aged snow cat couple. They resided in a mountainous region well away from the bustling city, in a very small settlement at high altitudes in an alpine setting. This provided a very secluded and self sustaining lifestyle for the snow cat family, and had the diversity of the cub's life very limited from early on. In his early years Nate was much different than he is today. From the beginning he looked up to his big brother, a darker colored cat who was tough and strong in his brother's eyes and a bully for everyone else. He followed his brother around everywhere he went for quite some time, on scavenging trips, even when father sent them down to the nearest town for supplies. Colden was his role model. Sadly he didn't quite live up to the job but for a while Nate had some hope for a good relationship with him.
The neighbors closest to the Harrisons (which really was quite a ways still) were a family of mountain goats. Despite the predatory relationship their ancestors might have had, their families were close. Trading supplies, helping each other out, and young Nate befriended their son of the same age. A nervous goat who often found himself picked on even by his own siblings. Nate's brother Colden was none too happy about being sent to the goats' house, not liking them for some reason that Nate just couldn't see. That their parents simply never noticed. Nate grew close to the young goat, tried to teach him to be strong like his own brother had taught him although he found out that some just weren't meant to be that way. When they reached school age, the two would travel down the mountain to school together. Nathaniel knew no different really, his parents supported the friendship and even encouraged any help he could give. And Nate was young, naive, and didn't truly realize that there was a prejudice in their world.
School was hard. Nate was for the most part feared as one of the biggest animals in the class as well as being a predator, and he watched his friend live through the torment of school and their peers. The snow cat didn't like it, and would often stand up for the goat so determined to make his life easier. When he got pushed down, Nathaniel was there to help him back up. It wasn't conventional really and the other students noticed but the two didn't mind. They were best friends, and Nate swore that he would always protect the goat from any danger that came their way. He did too, standing up to the bully kids until eventually they were too scared to come after his friend. Just when he thought he'd cleared things up, set the clear boundary, the last person he expected came after his best friend.
The two were around eleven and had a good routine and way of life going. They were loyal friends and it was them against the world. Which included Colden, as Nate would find out. He came to meet his friend at their usual place to head home. Nate would walk with him to his house before heading off to his own, just to be sure that his friend was safe and to maximize social time before chores had to be done. But when he got to their spot he found the goat... and Colden. Of all people to beat down that kid and become the bully, Colden was the last one the youngest Harrison could have expected. Pushing around the small goat was his brother, snarling even and just trying to intimidate the smaller animal. He took a disliking to the creature for so many reasons including his strong influence on Nate. Most of all, Colden had a hatred for prey animals and a natural disposition toward anger problems. Severely so and had they been in the city he likely would have been labeled much sooner for the 'disorder'. Nate saw his brother holding down his best friend, beating him down verbally as much as physically. His brother's hatred that spilled out of the words felt painful to Nate too, and he lashed out, taking his brother by surprise and pushing him away from the goat. The two felines got into a real fight that time, and claws came out until the smaller Nate was pinned by Colden, the larger animal ready to keep attacking him. It was lucky for all of them that a police officer from the city who had been vacationing in the mountains found the small group and was able to subdue Colden despite his rage. Nate was left with deep claw marks on his face, which remain to this day.
Colden was taken by the officer. The town turned their backs on the family and the older brother was a danger to everyone with his untreated behavioral problems. He had been caught in an act of injuring two younger kids and so he was locked up for some time. Nate and his goat friend were no longer permitted to see each other by the goat's family and the marks on his face drew quite the attention in school. The family were believably quite embarrassed as the stories traveled in their small town. So they picked up all their stuff and retreated further into the isolation of the mountains. They built a smaller cabin and made their new lives in seclusion. They couldn't handle the shame, and the mother was already sick as it was. She passed a couple years later, which left just Nate and his father. The elder Harrison was a kind hearted cat, who trusted most anyone, believed the best in everyone. But he was tough on Nate, taught him to hold his own and take care of himself. At times he seemed cruel, but they had a mutual understanding between them and Nate feels he was all the better for it. His father was compassionate over all, and Nate drew from him for his underlying values. The shame and hiding on the other hand, he'd rather avoid.
At the age of nineteen he had finally become fed up with the 'survivalist' isolated mountain living his father seemed to love. Nate was raised to be strong and brave, adventurous and ambitious, yet his father wanted to live out the rest of their lives alone in the mountains in a static routine that he just wasn't enjoying. A young Nate had a feeling of awe for the big city. He'd seen pictures, but never been. And all he could think of was his brother and the officer who had in fact saved them. He could make something of his life. While he had been forbidden from protecting his friend, he could protect others. He entered the police academy on very little thought. His father argued against it as he feared the big city and the greater world than their isolated little life. Nate's mother had been the adventurous one. The snow cat was an eager recruit and a large individual for a feline. He was determined, skilled in training and a tough rival for the rest of the class. Strong, fast, adaptable, and with little fear. He was well built for the job, including his species' skill-set toward balance and agility in difficult spaces. Despite his apparent bulk his balance was incredible at any height, and though unconventional he was resourceful and impressed his instructor quite well in such things. He graduated easily toward the top of the class and it was the proudest day of his life.
Zootopia was... overwhelming. The new young officer had never seen so many animals in one place. Had never seen half of the species beyond pictures. He was in awe, but for the most part he was overwhelmed. From the end of the first day he was done. Constant noise, movement, crowds, and so many animals in one space... he longed for home. He didn't need to be here. Had nothing really to prove and yet here he was. He was paired with a tough training officer who set very clear rules from the very beginning of their partnership. Nate was big and strong and worth a lot to the department, but he was naive about the world. He was accepted, but he didn't quite understand some of the social norms of society. He and the older officer became close over that first year. He learned to respect the man and his rules, learned why they existed and was taught the social workings of the city. He has never grown to like the urban setting but he had learned to live with it. It is also this training officer where he draws his own command style from. The good will rise to the challenge of a tough boss, the weak will give up.
Nate was a promising officer. He took the regulations and order seriously and made a name for himself in the department. For his determined ambition, his strength, his values... and his preferential treatment toward prey animals. While a predator himself, it was a predator who had destroyed his life those years ago and the cat has found himself protective of prey. More caring toward their struggles. He did his job well and for years he had his place in the department. He was never social with his peers, but his superiors liked him. He worked with a multitude of partners over his twenty-six years of experience on the force. He holds a few department records, and over the years earned himself a handful of awards. Eventually he earned his promotion to sergeant and began to train new officers quite frequently. He was always supportive of prey officers, so when he heard of a bunny being hired he was actually quite pleased despite the rest of the department's prejudice against the newcomer. He only heard of the new hire, and heard of both her down fall and success, but a part of him admires the small officer. He is a big supporter of diversity in his officers, understanding the difference in skill sets. The savage predators unfortunately brought back the images of his brother attacking him and for a while he worked solely at the station due to the divide that formed in the city. He has since returned to working his full job and admires those responsible for bringing down the plot.

How You Found Us: I think I googled Zootopia Roleplay or something like that right after I saw the movie and then stalked the place.
Alias: Kelor
Comments: Apologies for mistakes, I wrote this really late at night and apparently rambled... a lot. Also if anyone wants to claim his family, or some friend spots, I'd love it.

He's a quiet individual of few words, and while coming off as an aggressive and hateful brute of an animal, he has a very deep and thoughtful side too. He didn't get where he is by sheer brute force.
Strengths:
- Physical strength, he's big and he's tough enough to take on most animals.
- Thick skinned, emotionally. He gets angry but not hurt.
- Skilled in combat and weapons, and most anything law enforcement. He has 26 years on the force.
- Has strong positive values that he does not stray from. Equality, hard work, and the law mostly.
- Nate is tough enough to adapt and deal where he is uncomfortable. From sections of the city that his is not suited for, to dealing with being among things he just doesn't like. He can adapt and change strategies to fit the particular situation.
Weaknesses
- Has some aggressive tendencies toward certain behaviors. Verbal and intimidation aggression, not often direct violence. This has caused some negative reputations.
- Looks to have little to no care for others and their feelings.
- A deep desire for control and order, even where it isn't possible for him.
- His family can potentially be a weakness that can be exploited. He would really do anything to protect them and would likely completely isolate himself were something to happen to them.
- While strong and particularly agile and fast for his species, Nathaniel's size is a detriment to his speed and agility in comparison to smaller animals. He has endurance and strength but is not ideal for apprehending smaller animal subjects. Although when it comes to a sense of balance in high places, nobody has him beat.
Likes:
- His biggest love in his life is his family.
- Law, order, standards, basically he likes control.
- Solitude, calm, and the mountains he grew up in. He takes some vacation time every year or two just to go collect himself.
Dislikes/Fears:
- He highly dislikes big cities and large groups.
- Deep water, Nate is not a strong swimmer.
- Too much heat, he has a lot of fur so the warmest areas of the city are places he tends to avoid.

Important Relations
- Maya Harrison: The love of his life, he married this lovely Snow Leopard years ago and has never looked anywhere else. She's one of the few to access his less guarded side and he will do anything to protect her. He met Maya in his late twenties. They met when Nate was responding to a theft call at Maya's little trinket shop, and caught the thief. The meeting led to him becoming a customer of her shop, finding the female leopard attractive and a gentle soul with a strength to her that reminded him of his own mother. They have been married for eighteen years.
- Roman Harrison: The oldest of the Harrison sons, he is thirteen years old. He is smaller, but highly intelligent. He is quite agile in comparison to his bulkier father, and has academic ambitions for his future rather than following his father. He is often called Romi.
- Gregory Harrison: The middle son of the Harrison family he is ten years old. He takes after his father's bulkier build but isn't quite sure what he wants to do with himself. He's the shy one of the three sons and often is overshadowed by the others. He is classmates with Kali Bogo.
- Teigen Harrison: This adopted child is actually a tiger cub who lost his parents. Nate was a responding officer to the incident that caused their deaths and the tiger became immediately attached. Maya wouldn't let Nate refuse to take the poor cub in, so the family adopted him. He is six years old and dreams of being just like Nate.
- Colden Harrison: Nate's older brother. For many years he was locked away in prison but was a major influence on Nate's life and eventual joining of the ZPD. He has a behavioral disorder that caused violence, but has been control significantly enough that he has been released from prison on parole recently.
- Chief Bogo: Who he often calls Laurie because he knows it angers the buffalo, Bogo is his boss and an old friend. They were partners ten years ago and became close based on similar morals. They have children of the same age. The two are severely competitive, and Nate respects Bogo as a boss.
