I Wanna Be Like You [Bogo]

Remy had been following his mother around the city all morning while she made her weekly clothing deliveries, just as he did every week. He was too young to be left on his own and there wasn't anyone who seemed to be able to handle being his sitter. No one that both he and his mother had liked and felt comfortable with anyway. This was more fun anyway. Being out in the city, among the citizens of Zootopia and all the potential crimes that were around. It was perfect practice for the little kangaroo, or at least it was in his little mind. 

Today he had different plans than people watching and patrolling. He wanted to go and visit the police station. He wanted to be able to observe the officers and to snoop there to find out what was going on in the city. If there was anything he could maybe deal with that would impress the officers. Maybe it would impress them so much that they would name him the youngest officer ever! That would be so cool!

Remy took the first opportunity he got to bounce away from his mother while she was busy chatting with the old elephant woman about the new fabric she had gotten her hands on that would make a cute blouse for her. He wasn't thinking about how worried his mother would be when she noticed he was missing. He just wanted to get to the ZPD and it wasn't far from the house they were at. He made it there rather quickly, moving his way sneakily through the station. He even managed to steal a donut from the box on the front desk while the chubby, sweet cheetah had his back turned. He made his way through the station, motioning the donut and leaving a trail of crumbs behind him until he came across a couple officers talking in a hallway.

He stopped around the corner to stay out of sight, just peeking around as he listened to them talking about a possible thief in the area. A thief? Maybe he could catch this thief himself! He could do that! He leaned forward a bit more to listen closer to any details they might have, not paying attention to the hallway behind him and anyone who might be coming down it.

As far as police days went this one was particularly dull for the chief of police. Normal crimes and fairly easy captures that made things all that less interesting. It wasn't very engaging when the most of his responsibilities for today was signing off on paperwork and listening in to dispatch here and there. Now he had finished some miscellaneous papers that had remained on his desk for far too long. The extra time at least meant he could deal with his back log of folders. So the large buffalo decided that on his way to his lunch break he would drop the papers off with Clawhauser to give to the bear who currently ran the records room.

"Just, make sure he gets these okay?" Bogo said with an intense stare at the cheetah as he dropped the files on the desk in front of him. But his mind was instantly off of the chubby feline when he caught sight of peculiarly placed sprinkles on the wrong side of the counter for Clawhauser to have left them."You haven't been sharing things with the suspects, have you Clawhauser?" He looked up intently, staring at him but the cheetah gave a quick shake of his head.

"Absolutely not!" He insisted, and Bogo huffed at that. The investigator in him just couldn't leave it, especially as when he started for the break room he found himself stepping on crumbs. The buffalo looked down carefully at the floor, back to the front desk, then started to follow the periodic trail of donut crumbs. Someone at least needed to sweep up the hall after themselves if they were going to be this messy. The chief walked, his hands balled into fists ready to tell off the officer. But when he turned the corner to follow he saw something else instead of some sloppy officer. It was a tiny kangaroo and hardly mistakable for anything but what he was. It was Remi. But why was he here alone...?

Bogo walked forward as quietly as his hooves would allow. Not that it mattered, as the child was so focused on whatever he was actually listening to. That was good for him at least, as the officer came up behind the child. He reached his hands, grabbing the child before he could run out to the officers that were there.

"Remi. Why are you here?" Bogo asked quickly as soon as he grabbed the child. But he pulled him close to him to make sure he did not wiggle away. "Where is your mother?" He asked quickly. The child was memorable to say the least. From his great officer of a father, to his own lovable personality. Not to mention him seeming to pop up around scenes quite a bit.

Remy was quite intently listening to the officers talking about the victims of the thefts and the possible suspects that they had so far. His oversized ears flicking a bit. He was so focused on trying to hear every little detail that he wouldn't even have heard Bogo come up walking normally behind him so he definitely missed that he was trying to sneak up on him. That was probably the right move on the big buffalo's part too since Remy probably would have run off had he actually been paying attention andmanaged to hear someone coming up behind him. He wouldn't have revealed himself to the other two officers though.

Being grabbed from behind by someone was incredibly frightening for the little kangaroo though. He didn't even let out a scream until he was quite a ways off the ground though, too scares to get ant noise out at first. When he could he did scream though and start to wiggle in his arms as much as he possibly could. "Let go of me!" He cried out, pushing his little hands against Bogo's arms as if he would be able to get out of his grip. At first he didn't even register that his captor had said his name at all. It hit him after Bogo pulled him closer to his body.

He stopped wiggling and lifted his head to look up at the Buffalo chief. Out of all the officers he was the most recognizable for the little four year old. His daddy had always spoken so highly of the man while everyone else seemed to think he was a bit of a grump. He relaxed more and cuddled into Bogo'a large body, his little hand immediately going to one of the decorations on the front of his uniform shirt. It was a comfort thing when his father had held him and he couldn't help doino it now. "Chiefy Bogo!" He said excitedly. "I missed you sooo much." He added, his voice softer as he buried his face against him lovingly.

Remy held onto him, stalling a bit as well since he didn't have a good answer right away. Soon enough something came to mind though. "Mommy had deliveries. So she leaved me heres." He said, adding an innocent little shrug as he sat back just slightly to look at the decoration he was playing with. He didn't need to explain what he was doing in this exact spot, right?

Bogo even cringed at the scream though he was expecting it. Nothing really prepared his ears from the painful screech of a scared child. The chief squinted a bit at the child, he hadn't really meant to startle him so much but it had happened that way. He supposed he should have expected that the child would freak out. The buffalo held him close to him after that to hope he could find some recognition. Plus he just wanted to hold him close to make sure he didn't actually wiggle out of his arms and fall. Bogo certainly didn't want a hurt child out of this. His gaze remained firmly on the child, whose screaming and squirming had called the attention of multiple other officers. Upon noticing it was their chief though, they returned to their duties or conversations.

It seemed to be the right call, as the move caused the kangaroo to look up and finally recognize him. "Remy." He repeated in response to the child informing him of his name. Or more out loud realizing who was holding him. That was more likely. "Kind of missed having you around too," the chief admitted as he shifted how he was holding him to a more comfortable position for the child so that he could cuddle closer. He had a kid, he didn't mind holding the little one for a little. He knew the family fairly well. He had known the boy's father before of course, known him pretty well actually. He was a good officer, dedicated and honest, one that Bogo respected greatly. Unfortunately getting to know his family happened for the wrong reasons. He never wanted to lose an officer, particularly in the line of duty. But Remy's father had been one of those. Lawrence would have preferred to meet the family thoroughly when invited to a party or barbecue, or at the station. He had met the child as he grew over the years, but rapidly got to know the child and mother through dealing with his father's death... than heard from them less again. He missed the little one whose father brought him to work so often. Sometimes they needed that enthusiasm back around this station.

As much as he got used to the excitement, he also had gotten used to telling when kids were avoiding a question. This was one of those times. "Your mother just left you here without talking to anyone?" The buffalo asked with a skeptical look down his nose. Not that he was dumping the child outside if he hadn't. But it would be nice to have someone call and let his mother know that he was okay were she currently running wild trying to find him. "Remy, does your mother really know you're here? We love having you, but if she doesn't know where you are she's going to be so worried." He asked intently. He'd sent officers chasing the kangaroo down the halls multiple times before. Energetic and fast that kangaroo was. But he was just too cute, and this place could be like family a lot of the time. Particularly in the face of tragedy. He admired and even envied Remy's enthusiasm for life.

"So tell me, what was this junior officer investigating today?" The chief asked with a bit of a softer tone of voice. Not quite as serious as questioning about his mother.

Remy was so much more relaxed in Bogo's arms once he realized who was holding him and he realized that he wasn't actually going to get in any trouble. How could Bogo possibly get sweet little Remy into trouble when he really wasn't doing anything wrong at all? "Only Kind of?" Remy asked skeptically, grinning a bit as he innocently tilted his head to the side. Bogo had to have missed him more than that! Little Remy had missed him a ton. "I missed you, this much!" he said, throwing his arms out as wide as he could manage, at least avoiding hitting Bogo in the face or his little hands against the wall. 

He missed hanging out at the station with his father and the other officers. He missed his father in general, but being in the station made that feeling a bit different for the little kangaroo. This place was different than at home. This was the part of his father's life that Remy had been most interested in and the part that there was no trace of at home. His mother loved the officers of the ZPD, she did, but after her husband being killed in the line of duty she found it a painful reminder. That was why she didn't come around much anymore and why Remy didn't get to either. They had been a support group when it happened, but now she wanted to stay away from it, but she couldn't exactly crush her little boy's dreams either. 

"Mommy doesn't know I am here. She was next door." Remy admitted, his big ears folding back as he looked down. He was ashamed of lying to Bogo and he was ashamed of just running off like that, but he knew it was the only way he could come here. She would have told him that he couldn't bug Bogo. That he was too busy and the other officers would need to be working too, not watching him. "She was talking and talking and talking." he mumbled, making a bit of a face to show how insufferable it had been for him to have to stand there while her and her client jabbered on about boring adult things. 

He perked up when Bogo called him a junior officer and asked him what he was investigating though. "I heard them two talkin' about a thief!" he said, his eyes wide at the idea of it. "I stopped a thief once already, you know. All by myself. I sure did!" he added, clearly quite proud of himself. "I think I can help with this one too." he continued. He leaned forward, his little hands pressed against Bogo's shoulders, face to face with the buffalo as best he could be. "Chiefy Bogo, will you tell Mama I can stay here with you while she does deliveries? Please?" he begged, giving him his best begging, sad eyes. How could anyone say no to the sweet little Kangaroo who just wanted to help?
