The Basics
Full Name: William Rudolf Tagg
Nickname/Alias: Will, Tagg,
Species: Woodland caribou
Gender: Male
Age: 27
Occupation: General Practice Doctor (in residency)
District: Tundratown
Appearance
Fur/Tail: Like most reindeer, Will is covered in a thick coat of warm fur. The top of his head, his back, and each of his limbs are dark brown; the rest of him ranges between creamy white and tawny, sometimes depending on whether he is in his winter or summer coat. He does his best to keep it neat, both for the sake of hygiene at his job and out of a general desire to be neat; he even keeps the ruff of soft fur at his neck trimmed down, making him appear somewhat less bulky in silhouette than the typical caribou. His tail is a short, pointed tuft of white fur which, especially when covered by a lab coat, is very easily missed.
Clothing: In keeping with his academic personality, Will dresses in a rather subdued, but immaculate and preppy, fashion. Most days, he wears a buttoned, collared shirt with either a pair of nice jeans or slightly slim trousers; depending on the weather and where he's going, he may add a sweater, a tie, or both. When working at the hospital, Will usually wears his lab coat over his street clothes--it's rare that he's actually called upon to wear scrubs, though he does occasionally have to. Either way, the reindeer tends toward clothing with more somber colors and, at most, subtly patterned fabric. While he may stand out for looking well put-together, he doesn't feel comfortable dressing loudly.
Overview: Will Tagg is a quiet, gentle soul, qualities which are plainly reflected in his appearance. He's a bit short for a reindeer, though as he's also relatively slender, his proportions don't appear distorted. His usual demeanor when he's comfortable is calm, but engaged; he may not always feel the need to speak, but he is usually paying careful attention to his surroundings, especially when other mammals are around. As mentioned above, he likes to appear neat, and the way he comports himself reflects that.
Of course, stressful situations like being around any significant number of strangers--especially boisterous or hostile ones--elicits a very different attitude. In times like this, an air of nervous energy forms around the young reindeer; his movements begin to be more abrupt, and even his posture can become rather awkward if he isn't sure how to interact with someone. His dark blue eyes, generally placid and focused, start darting about as he tries to keep track of everything around him. He may not look entirely crazed, but when he's growing anxious, he's terrible at hiding it.
Personality
Personality Description: Will is the type of mammal who you cannot possibly get to know in one sitting. While not averse to making new acquaintances, he is a rather shy sort; it takes him quite some time to feel comfortable truly letting his guard down around most mammals, particularly if they are rowdy or rude. Being rather introverted, this usually isn't a great loss for him, but there are times when the reindeer does wish he found it easier to make friends. Because of his timidness around strangers, he forms very strong bonds with those who stick around long enough to pull him out of his shell; he is incredibly loyal to those treasured few, and will do almost anything to help them.
Because of his introversion, Will is a gifted listener. He's learned to be very observant about others, especially if they decide to fill the silences he leaves by chattering about themselves. He also reads a great deal, and usually has a book stashed within ten feet of himself (if not crammed into his pocket). This results in a noticeably 'proper' manner of speech, one which is suited to his usual deep, if silent, thinking. When he does speak up, he prefers to do so with careful, intentional thought backing up his words; if he's forced to speak more off-hand, there is a very real chance that he'll get tongue-tied and blurt out something bizarre. Will actually greatly fears embarrassing himself like this, as he's a very sensitive reindeer and has been mocked for his awkwardness plenty of times in his life; better to say little and fly under the radar than to draw attention to yourself for saying something stupid.
Despite his social struggles, Will remains surprisingly optimistic about the general goodness of others. The idea that someone could be fundamentally bad is completely untenable to him; by his reckoning, a bad attitude or deed usually has an explanation and cause beyond inherent inclination of a particular species. This way of thinking factors into his overall compassion, which particularly motivates him to help the outcast and underprivileged; unfortunately, it also makes it relatively easy for those with less savory intentions to manipulate him by playing off his idealism. No matter how many times his father tried to warn him off this attitude, Will simply could not bring himself to condemn anyone without extreme cause. The only thing he tends to truly despise is those who hurt others, physically or emotionally, without any guilt whatsoever. And if you manage to really get on the reindeer's bad side, you will find it very difficult to leave.

History
History: Will was the second child of his parents, born in the city of Hoofentry three years after his sister Lily. His father was a police officer, as was typical for the bucks in his family line; Will's uncle was, therefore, an officer as well. His mother, meanwhile, was a journalist. She had met her husband while researching for an editorial piece, and while the two disagreed quite ardently about whether the recent influx of predators into a predominantly ungulate-filled city was a bad thing, they managed to fall in love regardless. Those who knew them firmly believed that "Lily is her father's daughter, and Will is his mother's son," a sentiment the two reindeer would be reminded of very frequently as they grew up.
Sadly, Will was denied the chance to discover this for himself. When he was only 4, his parents died in a car accident; though he had been in the back seat, Will escaped with only a scar on his right forearm. He and his sister were sent to live with his uncle, the other Officer Tagg, who had no children or a wife of his own. Predictably, the rather gruff cop was very uncertain about suddenly having to raise his very young niece and nephew. However, he managed to adjust to what eventually became the new normal, and the three caribou managed to form a loving, functioning new family unit together.
It helped that Lily was very attached to, and protective of, her younger brother. Will, while curious and cheerful when only his family was around, was far more skittish around strangers--and an easy target for bullies. His sister, being both his defender (and somewhat contentious in general), got into more than her fair share of scrapes with other students, leaving Will to help pick up the pieces almost every time. He never complained, though. His uncle was out fighting crime, and his sister was busy standing up for him. Helping patch her up wasn't only a way to keep their uncle from getting too concerned; it was the only way he could think to be helpful.
Disinfecting cuts and applying Band-aids began to develop into an interest in medicine as Will grew older. This interest was additionally fed by his own ravenous hunger for knowledge and his fascination with science, and with his exemplary academic performance, it was clear to everyone where his future was one day going to take him. But even though his sister and uncle made a point of reassuring him that they were proud of him, Will felt uncertain. The legacy of his family--particularly his father--was looming over him, and the young reindeer couldn't help but feel like he would be a disappointment for failing to take his 'rightful' place as a police officer. After all, even his sister had elected to go to the police academy in Hoofentry; Will, meanwhile, began to worry that he would become the shame of the family line.
Indecision weighed heavily on his heart, and Will gradually became a nervous wreck as he went through his senior year of high school. One day, he resolved that his future had been chosen for him, and he had to accept it; he had to join the police force. Full of dread, he went to his uncle and told him he had made his decision, and that he would no longer have to worry about Will embarrassing him by breaking the family tradition. What his uncle said next was...unexpected:
"I have never heard such bilge in all my life, Will."
With that, Will's uncle proceeded to inform him that he could never be ashamed of a nephew who dedicated his life to healing the sick and wounded, and that forcing himself to be a police officer to satisfy an unofficial family tradition was "a waste of your brain." Buoyed by the support that, quite frankly, he should have always known he had, Will resumed his proper life path with gusto. He graduated valedictorian from his high school and earned his BS in biology from a university near his hometown; all that was left was medical school, and he could finally achieve his lifelong goal of becoming a full-fledged physician.
Of course, life rarely goes as planned, as Will was about to be reminded. He had planned to go to Warwhinny University, which would allow him to stay in his hometown; somehow, he never seriously considered the possibility that he would not be accepted. Meanwhile, he was accepted to the Zootopia College of Medicine, which he had only applied to because he was sure he wouldn't be. Once again, the young caribou was faced with a difficult choice and came dangerously close to choosing wrong. He confided in his sister that he was strongly considering taking a gap year and just applying to Warwhinny once again, at which his sister called him a 'big oaf' and encouraged him to take his chance in the big city across the pond.
With that, Will boarded an airplane for the first time and flew out to the great city of Zootopia. His four years of medical school have come and gone, and the caribou is now a third-year resident at Tundratown General Hospital. Despite his initial trepidation at leaving his old home and coming to a city that was many times larger and more diverse, the aspiring doctor has come to love his new home, with both its highlights and its foibles. In Zootopia, he has finally achieved his dream of dedicating his life to helping others.
So now it's time to find a new dream.
